I thought I’d try putting a blog on my own website instead of LJ. We’ll see if I keep up better with this one than I did with LJ.

These photos have been sitting on my computer for almost a year, but they always seemed a little too risque to post. But now, I am no longer afraid!
I saw these cross-stitched pillows depicting sex acts at the Boston Young Contemporaries last year. The combination of crafting and crass is just brilliant. Maybe I should work more semen into my ham paintings? Nah, that’s a bit too much for me. I am looking forward to seeing what the BYC will showcase this year. They even have a call for entries. Hmm…
In other news, check out The Counterfeit Crochet Project.

Hans Hemmert made this beautiful tank out of balloons. He also creates other sculptures and installations using balloons. I love the idea of taking something so common and making art out of it. It reminds me of a post on Future Shipwreck about a party where kids had built tents in and around their home as part of the celebration. One tent was made out of balloons, and it looked amazing. Having never gone to art school, I often romanticize what it must be like to live for a few years with your only goal being to make art and push your creativity.

Finally, I have found a plant that I can’t kill. And it’s crocheted! Dudua makes these everylasting beauties as well as other fun handmade things in their shop.
The Take Away Shows, if you haven’t seen them, are brilliant. I first fell in love with them when I saw a clip of Sufjan Stevens singing on a rooftop while trying not to be blown off by crazy winds. Last night I checked in to see a great clip of Yeasayer in Paris. I just love the energy and excitement that these impromptu shows capture. That feeling of being young and in love with music and seeing life as a world of possibilities. Or maybe it just seems exciting compared to my evening of Family Guy reruns and eating my feelings.
There’s another clip of this sort of excitement over on Pitchfork featuring HEALTH. For the life of me, I can’t ever remember having that much energy. Even when I was young and full of sugar, the most energy I ever had was when I beat a video game and would run around the house telling my family members who could care less. Sorry, yall.
And because I’m in a sharing mood, here’s a couple songs that I’m loving at the moment. Enjoy.
Fleet Foxes - “Mykonos”
Yeasayer - “2080″
Also check out Beach House’s video for “Gila” on Pitchfork. I’m scared of the kids making music today. Eep.
